BART is the assistant built into ARTup. You ask it things in ordinary language
and it answers using what the platform actually knows: your profile, your
records, the documents you have uploaded, and the general knowledge it has been
given about the art ecosystem.
Anyone with an ARTup account. You need to be signed in to talk to BART: if you
open it without being signed in, you are shown a sign-in screen first. Once
signed in, you see a single page, the conversation with BART. Administrators
also see the tools they use to run the service.
Artists use it most, because most of what it can look up is about an artist's
career, but it will help a gallery, a collector, or someone simply trying to
work out how a part of the platform works.
Ask about your own material. What is on your profile, what you have
recorded, what a document you uploaded says. You do not have to remember where
in the platform something lives.
Ask about the platform. How something works, what a term means, what a
particular part of ARTup is for.
Ask about art in general. Artists, works and exhibitions held on the
platform, and, when the answer lies outside ARTup altogether, it will look it up
on the web and tell you where the answer came from, rather than leaving you
with nothing.
Use the language you prefer. You choose the language of the conversation and
the answers follow it.
Speak instead of typing. You can record a question rather than write it, and
have an answer read aloud to you. This matters on a phone, and in a gallery
where typing is awkward.
Pick up where you left off. Your conversations are kept, so you can come
back days later and ask about something you discussed before. You can also start
a fresh conversation whenever you like.
A way into the platform that does not require you to learn its structure first.
And a private one: when BART looks at personal material, it only ever looks at
yours. It cannot read another account's conversations or documents, and no
other account can reach yours through it.
